It was late night when Trucker Kevin Kimmel arrived at a truck stop in New Kent County. He is always vigilant when on the road, so when he saw an RV parked a few spots away he knew something just didn’t seem right.

Kevin noticed a young woman’s face vanishing behind a black curtain moments before a suspicious commotion shook the Sun Voyager RV from side to side, Kimmel told WTVR.

He also noticed a man suspiciously enter, exit, and reenter the RV, and “all of a sudden the thing was rocking and rolling”. The clincher was when he spotted a distraught girl looking out the window and then quickly disappearing behind the curtain.

So he immediately dialed the local sheriff’s office from the rig of his truck

He told the outlet, “When I saw the young girl’s face, I said that’s not going to happen, I’ve got daughters and granddaughters.”

Law enforcement authorities from the area outside Richmond searched the RV after the tip, finding a malnourished young woman who alleged that Aldair Hodza, 36, and Laura Sorensen, both of Clive, Iowa, were holding her against her will and were physically and sexually abusing her.

She also told authorities that her captors branded her on her back and set her up to perform a sex act at the truck stop along Route 106 through a Craigslist ad, WTVR previously reported.

The Iowa couple, who is charged with abduction with intent to defile, will stand trial in federal court because they allegedly moved the victim over state boundary lines and around several jurisdictions within Virginia.

Now, years later, Kimmel is making his way across the country with Truckers Against Trafficking, speaking out to fight human trafficking.

“The more informed I got, the more I was interested in becoming part of the solution,” he said.
