Yet ANOTHER Democrat Arrested For Breaking The Law!

Uncategorized

Georgia’s Democrat Representative Hank Johnson, was among a group of protesters arrested on the Capitol complex on Thursday while demonstrating voting rights and against the filibuster in the Senate.

The arrest came one week after the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police, also while demonstrating voting rights.

Johnson, 66, is the second member of Congress arrested recently in support of federal action to support voting rights.

He was arrested outside the Hart Senate Office building while attending Black Lives Matter’s “Brothers Day of Action on Capitol Hill” protest.

Demonstrators were protesting against Republican-led efforts to enact laws that will strengthen the integrity of elections — such as voter ID laws and ending the use of drop boxes for ballots.

The protesters were chanting things like “Hey, hey! Ho, ho! The filibuster has got to go!”

They blocked the entrance to the Hart Senate Office Building and were subsequently arrested by Capitol Police for “unlawfully demonstrating,” charged with “crowding, obstructing or incommoding.”

“I was arrested today protesting against Senate inaction on voting rights legislation & filibuster reform,” Mr. Johnson wrote on Twitter. “In the spirit of my dear friend and mentor — the late Congressman John Lewis — I was getting in #goodtrouble.”

The reason of the reason was due to “unlawfully demonstrating outside of the Hart Senate Office Building,” and charged them with “crowding, obstructing or incommoding.” They have all since been released.

Just last week, with the same event, Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, was also arrested.

Here’s a report from Politico:

Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) was among nine protesters arrested Thursday afternoon who were calling on the Senate to pass voting rights legislation.

Chanting “end the filibuster” and “let the people vote” the group marched into Hart Senate Office Building in what Beatty said was an effort to “send (senators) a message.”

The group of around 20 people spent about 20 minutes in the building before Capitol Police delivered several warnings and restrained the protesters with zip ties. The police detained Beatty first, then led her and other protesters outside to waiting Capitol Police vans. The remaining protesters walked out of Hart without being arrested.
