On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated advice that sexually active Americans should think about restricting their partners and staying away from sex parties to lower their chance of catching monkeypox until they get vaccinated.
According to the findings, of the 291 males who participated in the survey, 40% said they had two to four partners and 14% said they had five to nine partners in the three weeks before contracting monkeypox. The CDC said on Friday that during that time, about 19 percent reported having 10 or more partners, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Doctors have warned that Monkeypox has a “massive impact” on Sexually active Americans, as the risk of monkeypox is high especially if you’re in the pool of higher-risk people, that pool includes men who have sex with men, particularly those who have had multiple sexual partners in the past two weeks in an area with known monkeypox cases.
The data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows 1,972 probable or confirmed monkeypox cases in the US, with 99 percent being men, and 96 percent being gay men.
Global data suggests skin-to-skin contact during sex is fueling the outbreak, which has resulted in more than 7,000 infections in the United States and 26,000 worldwide Cases that have been reviewed in detail show that infections are overwhelmingly among gay men, that the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a “public health emergency of international concern” on July 23. Overall, the U.S. case count was 7,510 as of Saturday.
In a report by the Journal, the CDC investigation indicated that out of 291 men polled, 19% reported having 10 or more relationships in the three weeks prior to being sick, 14% reported having between 5 and 9 partners, and 40% reported having between 2 and 4 partners.
In the meantime, “Among 86 men with information reported, 33 (38%) reported group sex, defined as sex with more than two persons, at a festival, group sex event, or sex party,” the CDC reported.

The new sexual health guidance from the CDC echoes the comments from WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the CDC guidance says the risk of exposure can be reduced by limiting sexual partners, and avoiding spaces such as sex clubs where anonymous sexual contact with multiple partners occurs.
