A longtime kindergarten teacher from Texas has been taken into police custody and charged with a misdemeanor after she allegedly mistreated one of her students by making him eat his feces.
The accused, 67-year-old Mamie Robinson Aplon from Jasper, was arrested after she subjected the child, whose age and name have not been revealed, from Few Primary School on Bulldog Avenue [where she works] to this disgusting ordeal on September 25th.
In a statement addressing the horrific incident, Jasper ISD Superintendent Dr. Steve Hyden said the authorities were notified and Aplon had immediately been placed on leave after the allegations came to light.
“The alleged incident was reported to campus administrators on the day of the incident and the district immediately placed the teacher on administrative leave and informed the Jasper Police Department and Child Protective Services,” it read. “The district has cooperated fully during the investigation of this matter and will continue to do so.”
“As this is a sensitive student and personnel matter, the district cannot provide further details about the incident. However, the issue of the safety and well-being of Jasper students is our top priority,” it added.
Aplon was indicted by a Jasper County grand jury on a Class A misdemeanor charge of “official oppression” on Thursday, October 31, and arrested by Jasper Police.
In the indictment, obtained by KJAS, Aplon was accused of intentionally subjecting the victim, identified as EJ “to mistreatment that the defendant knew was unlawful, namely causing EJ to eat his own feces, and the defendant was then and there acting under the color of her employment as an educator.”
Aplon, who is the daughter of RC Horn, who had served as a mayor of Jasper, was arraigned by Jasper County Judge Mark Allen on Friday, November 1, and had her bond set at $10,000.
While her guilt has not been proven, Aplon has to go to court to defend herself against the horrible allegations. If convicted, she may spend a year in prison and pay a fine of up to $4,000. For a senior citizen, this would be a tough sentence to endure.
More details of this report from AWM:
Jasper County grand jury indicted Aplon on October 31, 2019, about a month after the incident occurred. The indictment claims that Aplon purposely forced the victim, identified as E.J., to horrible acts of mistreatment that the teacher “knew was unlawful, namely causing E.J. to eat his own feces” while “acting under the color of her employment as an educator.”
Supporters of the educator jumped to her defense all over the social media landscape.
“I had the pleasure of two years of the recess with this lady, and she sure did teach me a lot about teaching,” colleague and fellow educator Nancy Pace wrote.
