Burger King’s Pride campaign gone wrong…

Burger King’s Pride campaign, featuring the “Pride Whopper,” debuted in Austria, and boy it is getting negative feedback.

The campaign started on Instagram and the “Pride Whopper” will be available until June 20. What makes it different from the original burger is it has “two equal buns,” which means you can get it with either two top halves or two bottom halves.

The website translation states (translated from German):

“We are setting an example for individuality and freedom and stand for a respectful interaction with each other. Equal rights. Empathy. Understanding. No matter where you come from, no matter who you love, no matter what you look like or what you believe in: Time to be proud.”

The social media campaign certainly leaves many with questions, here are some comments from folks online:

“One day into pride month and already exhausted.”

“This is a joke, right?”

“Burger King Austria made a Pride burger that’s either two tops or two bottoms… what in straight hell?”

“One of the Burger King restaurants in our area closed due to bad management. After seeing this, I hope the entire chain closes due to bad corporate management.”

Daily Wire reported about Burger King’s previous support for LGBT’s Pride Month and LGBT issues:

This isn’t the first time Burger King went public with their support of Pride Month and LGBT issues. Last June, the company donated 40 cents from the purchase of every Ch’King sold that month to the Human Rights Campaign. HRC is the largest LGBT advocacy group and political lobbying organization in the world.

Last year, Burger King called attention to rival Chick-fil-A’s fraught history with the LGBTQ+ community. It said it would donate 40 cents to the Human Rights Campaign, the United States’ largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, for every Ch’King chicken sandwich sold during Pride Month.

In a 2018 interview with a local Atlanta TV station, Chick-fil-A chairman and former CEO Dan Cathy said he did not support gay marriage but was not anti-gay.
