House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has reportedly offered Fox News host Tucker Carlson access to thousands of hours of video footage documenting the Jan. 6 Capitol incident.
McCarthy has given all of the January 6th camera footage — 41,000 hours worth — to Carlson, and his team is going through all of it as we speak. The Democrats, of course, aren’t happy about this.
The development was first reported by Mike Allen from Axios, who cited sources close to McCarthy.
Axios co-founder Mike Allen reported Monday morning:
“Carlson TV producers were on Capitol Hill last week to begin digging through the trove, which includes multiple camera angles from all over Capitol grounds. Excerpts will begin airing in the coming weeks.”
The report said that producers from the show were at the Capitol last week in order to sift through the video content from multiple angles during the rioting in 2021. Clips from the trove of footage are likely to start airing on the show in the coming weeks.
The report also quoted Carlson as saying to Axios, “There was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret.”
Footage from the rioting at the U.S. Capitol was released at hearings from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 rioting.
“If there was ever a question that’s in the public’s interest to know, it’s what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it,” continued Carlson.
“It’s impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that,” he added.
McCarthy angered some when he disagreed with the contention that Ashli Babbitt, a rioter who was fatally shot by a Capitol police officer, was “murdered.”
More from DailyWire:
House Republicans Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN), Rodney Davis (R-IL), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) independently published a 141-page investigative report last month outlining what they describe as House Democratic leadership and Capitol authorities’ failures that left the complex vulnerable.
Banks, the leader of the effort, said the report “exposes the partisanship, incompetence, and indifference that led to the disaster on January 6 and it the leading role Speaker Pelosi and her office played in the security failure at the Capitol.”
Carlson has long pushed for the release of the footage, arguing that Washington, D.C., has “a regime of secrecy and deceit” and the Capitol riot itself was an “outbreak of mob violence, a forgettably minor outbreak by recent standards.”
We will likely see footage released from Carlson and his team over the course of the next few weeks and you shouldn’t be surprised if an entire special is created on the side that will air on Fox Nation.
It is currently unclear if McCarthy will release the footage to the general public after Carlson’s team is done with it.
One thing is for sure. The Democrats will be going into a full-on crisis mode, and like a cornered beast it’s going to lash out as Carlson begins airing footage that casts the Democrat Party’s narratives surrounding the event into question.
