The Wall Street Journal has published a new article about Bill Gates’ alleged year-long affair with a Microsoft employee. Because of this partnership, Gates was suspended from the Board of Directors.
According to people familiar with the situation, Microsoft board members determined that Bill Gates needed to resign from the company’s board of directors in 2020 as they launched an investigation into the billionaire’s previous improper romantic relationship with a female Microsoft employee.
Members of the board charged with the investigation retained a law firm in late 2019 after a Microsoft engineer said in a letter that she had a sexual relationship with Mr. Gates for years, according to the people.
During the investigation, some board members agreed it was no longer appropriate for Mr. Gates to sit as a director at the software business he founded and led for decades, the people said.
Mr. Gates resigned before the board’s inquiry was concluded and before the full board could make a final decision on the matter, another person familiar with the matter said.
This was also mentioned in the Daily Mail:
The affair was revealed after a Microsoft employee detailed the affair in a letter to the board of directors in 2019 – and reportedly requested that Gates’ estranged wife Melinda Gates, 56, read the letter.
Although the investigation was still ongoing, Gates, 65, abruptly resigned from the board of directors in March 2020.
