Nobody can think of rock and roll without having the legendary Elvis Presley pop into their head. The two are practically synonymous.

“Unchained Melody” has been covered hundreds of times. Chances are you’ve already heard one version or another. Susan Boyle once delivered a startling rendition that brought everyone to tears. Of course, there’s also the original Righteous Brothers original.

But nobody does it like Elvis.

Now, a stunning rare footage of Elvis Presley singing a classic favorite with so much passion and intensity two months before his passing is still giving every person who watches it “the chills.”

Sitting behind the piano in his shiny recognizable attire, The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll performed an excellent rendition of “Unchained Melody” to an audience in Rapid City, South Dakota, in June 1977.

Being the true showman he was, Elvis sang the classic beautifully, putting everything he had into that moment while simultaneously playing the piano. The way he belts out the vocals is absolutely haunting, and many fans believe it was one of his best performances ever.

To this day, fans are still lamenting Elvis’s death as well as marveling at the video of that performance, which has racked up millions of views on YouTube.

Jack London shared the footage of Elvis singing “Unchained Melody” on YouTube, breaking down the barrier between this rare footage and the public. He also added the following description as a note:

“Elvis loved you, his heart was filled with love of his fans and people! He had to take painkillers to make it through a live show, and even his doctors wanted to cancel this show, he said: ‘No, no way I will cancel this show and let those people down!’ He instructed his doctors to give him anything that will make him through this show and to be able to make the best of his performance in that time. So, they agreed and gave him a cocktail of painkillers and steroids to be able to do the best possible performance! And God knows he did it, his talent came through the clouds of painkillers and sang his love above any drugs! No pills could put his love and talent down and will for singing to his fans that he admired so much! More than his own life! Elvis was a beautiful human being, and there will be no other but him always!”

“The brightest stars burn out the soonest and such was the case with Elvis. He came and he shined his talent on to all of us then left this mortal world behind. Now he shines even brighter than he did here,” one person aptly wrote.

Another added, “A king still loved and his music lives on in our hearts and minds. He was a remarkable human and an amazing sunshine of talent.”

We couldn’t have said it better. The world was a better place for having such a gifted person in it. Rest in peace, Elvis. You’ll always be king in your fans’ eyes.
