I don’t have any right possible to judge our featured story today, we’ve shared a lot of bizarre stories recently but what these three Fathers just did will make your jaw dropped.
Having a Father and Mother in a family is such a blessing, but what if there is no mom and instead, you’ll get 3 dads? I mean, you’ll need a lot of explaining to do when your kids grow up and start to ask why?
I wonder what it feels like…
Three gay couples finally won their legal battle to have all three of their names on their children’s birth certificates. Their polyamorous relationship is called “throuple,” the word for three people in a committed relationship.
Doctor Ian Jenkins, 45-years-old and the partners’ Alan Mayfield and Jeremy Allen Hodges are living in a residence in San Diego, broke legal ground in 2017 when a San Diego judge agreed to put all three men on the birth certificate of their daughter, 3-year-old Piper.
The recognition of this family has also opened up a pathway for other polyamorous families but these men are not yet done.
San Diego physician Ian Jenkins describes his family’s home life as pretty boring and domestic. But its very uniqueness has drawn the attention of both the California courts and a national book publisher, which will release Jenkins’ eye-opening memoir, “Three Dads and a Baby.”
Jenkins’ book, being released by Cleis Press on Tuesday, details the trio’s years-long journey into parenting, with the help of in vitro fertilization, surrogates, and a precedent-setting legal battle to have all three of their names on their children’s birth certificates.
Besides publishing a book about their family unit, the “throuple” has now put all three of their names on the birth certificate of their 14-month-old son, Parker. Piper and Parker are biologically half-siblings because the “throuple” used an egg donor and a surrogate.
Things are working well for them as their children are calling in them with names like “Daddy” for Jeremy, “Dada” for Alan, and “Papa” for Ian.
“We did have a slight attention to the fact that our kids might be perceived differently and we didn’t want them to become a target of teasing or bullying or online abuse,” Ian said in a statement.
Jenkins said he thinks it’s important that people understand that parenting and families in America are changing, and that’s not a bad thing.
“What stands out to me is the importance to all of us about raising the kids with a loving attitude and mindset that we all need to be good to each other to have a functional society because it’s so divided right now,” Jenkins said. “We want them to grow up with an appreciation and love for everyone.”
