A new principal at a middle school in Louisville, Kentucky was arrested on his first day of work for making terroristic threats. According to WAVE-TV, Leroy Littles was taken into custody on a warrant issued by the Hillview Police Department, and charged with terroristic threatening and fourth-degree assault for a Christmas Day incident.
Littles was arrested at Olmsted Academy North, where he had just started as principal. The Louisville Courier-Journal reported that the arrest was not related to Littles’ new job, and the district released a statement clarifying that his employment was not connected to the charges.
The incident occurred on December 25, when Littles allegedly confronted a man who was leaving his home with Littles’ girlfriend, who was also the man’s former girlfriend.
According to the complaint, Littles hit the man several times in the face, head, and torso when he tried to leave the vehicle. The man sustained injuries to his forehead, lip, eye socket, and ribs, and Littles allegedly threatened him, saying, “I know where you live, motherf***er, I’ll be back.”
The victim provided video evidence of the incident and photos of his injuries to the Bullitt County Attorney’s Office on December 28, resulting in the issuance of the warrant.
Littles had been with the Jefferson County Public Schools for 16 years as an English teacher and a behavioral coach. He was appointed principal of Olmsted Academy North on March 8 and expressed his passion for being “the intentional change that is needed to impact our student body” in a statement at the time.
Nate Meyer, assistant superintendent for Accelerated Improvement Schools, also praised Littles’ leadership and ability to connect with students, their families, and the school staff in a statement.
However, following his arrest, Littles was let go from his position as principal. The school district sent a letter home to parents, stating that “JCPS is following its normal procedures for allegations related to staff” and that the assistant principal would be in charge effective immediately.
