On Wednesday, Emergency teams responded to the Early Childhood Development Center in Camden after sanitizer was discovered in milk cartons, according to the school district.
According to a Camden County news release, more than 30 students were taken to nearby hospitals.
The Camden City School District said in a statement:
“It was determined that the substance found in the cartons is a non-toxic consumable sanitizer that runs through the vendor machines prior to milk.”
The school district said in a series of tweets and a Facebook post that the contaminated milk was given out at the Early Children Development Center, where kindergarten and pre-K students attend.
This morning we investigated a possible contamination of milk today at our Early Childhood Development Center. It was determined that the substance found in the cartons is a non-toxic consumable sanitizer that runs through the vendor machines prior to milk.

The school district said that the substance is apparently used to prevent anything harmful from getting into the milk when it is packaged before shipping and is consumable.
Camden schools said in a tweet:
“Unfortunately, many cartons were filled with the sanitizer, sealed, and then shipped out with the milk. We pulled all milk today and NO milk will be served until the investigation is completed. Emergency teams were dispatched to the school.”
Several people were outraged at the news, asking how something like this could happen.
‘How does something like this occur? The entire quality system is in question,’ one person commented on the district’s Facebook page.
‘Omg, what is wrong with these Companies now they trying to kill our children it’s always something but thank God nobody is sick,’ another person wrote.
While others just reacted in shock, commenting: ‘How just how!’ and ‘What is going on???!!!’
