The assault on Christianity, which underpins the foundations of America and the Western world, is evident in the recent case of a church being heavily fined for defying the state’s overreaching Covid restrictions.
A Santa Clara County church in California has been slapped with a staggering $1.2 million fine for defying health orders during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. This is just the latest instance of Christian persecution in a state where left-wing politicians prioritize their draconian regulations over religious freedom.

San Jose’s Calvary Church was found guilty by the Superior Court of California of “egregious conduct” for allowing their congregation and community members to worship together. Ignoring the fundamental importance of religious freedom, liberal Judge Evette Pennypacker dismissed the argument that public health orders violated the Constitution and restricted religious practice.
As reported by local media, the church held services during the 2020 pandemic, where many attendees were unmasked, violating the health orders in place at the time. From May 31, 2020, to May 2021, the Santa Clara County Church held services with 300-500 people in attendance and celebrated around 1,000 baptism events. They also organized prayer gatherings.

The Office of the County Counsel issued a statement arguing that wearing a mask while worshiping and communing with others is a “simple, unobtrusive, giving way to protect others while still exercising your right to religious freedom.” However, they ignored the fact that the church’s defiance was a stand against the government’s heavy-handed approach to public health.
According to the County Counsel, “Defendants repeatedly refused to model, much less, enforce this gesture. Instead, they repeatedly flouted their refusal to comply with the Public Health Orders and urged others to do so ‘who cares what the cost,’ including death.”
The Democrats in California have a disturbing habit of targeting religious communities, pushing their agenda at the expense of fundamental American values. They seem to have forgotten that religious freedom is a bedrock of our democracy, protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
