A former House Intelligence Committee chairman has been accused of leaking highly classified information, causing concern for national security and prompting an ex-CIA director to limit shared intel.
Adam Schiff‘s alleged leaking of highly classified information has been a cause for concern, particularly as it forced ex-CIA director Mike Pompeo to limit the information shared with Schiff and his staff. Pompeo, who has been considering a run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, revealed these concerning allegations in a Fox News interview earlier this year.
“Outnumbered” co-host Emily Compagno pointed out that such leaks are a felony at a minimum, and possibly even treason. Pompeo explained that it was difficult to precisely determine what had transpired, but he noticed that sensitive information provided to Schiff and his staff regularly ended up in the wrong hands. This led to Pompeo withholding information from Schiff.
Interestingly, Schiff’s recent interview with The Harvard Gazette revealed his belief that not all leaks are bad, further fueling Pompeo’s accusations against the California Democrat. Schiff admitted that while disclosing sensitive information could harm national security and U.S. alliances, he argued that “profound mutual interests” should overcome any damage caused by leaks. Schiff’s comments appear to suggest that leaks may initially cause harm, but that everyone will recover from them eventually.
Schiff’s removal from the House Intelligence Committee by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has only added to his woes. No longer privy to intel briefings, Schiff claimed that his removal from the committee has made it difficult for the U.S. to maintain unity with Europe and Congress on Ukraine. He insinuated that his absence impacted the U.S. allies amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Schiff even went as far as to blame Tucker Carlson, claiming that the “intellectual thought leader of today’s GOP” peddles Kremlin talking points on his program. This statement demonstrates Schiff’s reluctance to accept responsibility for his own actions and their consequences.
To add to Schiff’s troubles, an ethics complaint has been filed against him over a campaign video he created while launching his bid for retiring Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat. The video, featuring Schiff presenting his case for then-President Donald Trump’s second impeachment on the Senate floor, allegedly violates congressional rules, according to the watchdog group Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT).
