A video shared on YouTube shows a Major of the Syrian Republican Guard touring the corpses of dozens of Islamic State militants killed in Deir ez-Zor, Syria.
Major General Issam Zahreddine aka ‘Lion of the Republican Guard,’ who is one of the key figures in the fight against the terror faction, can be seen counting corpses as he walks past.
The clip is part of a nine minute video showing the Republican Guard in numerous shootouts against ISIS, seemingly reclaiming a town and inspecting the bodies of other fighters they had just killed, the Daily Mail reports.
The line of bodies is so long that some of the soldiers walking past stop before they even reach the last of the dead.
ISIS has held parts of Deir ez-Zor since 2014. Since then, they have been rooted in battle with the Syrian Arab Army.
Three days ago, Yahoo! News reported that SAA soldiers were ‘meters’ away from ISIS in Deir ez-Zor. It is unclear if the battle described is the aftermath in the video shown above, however the Daily Mail reports that the video could be from as early as last January.
At that time, ISIS took over parts of the city’s north during an assault that claimed the lives of up to 300 people, including civilians and army personnel.

The original, longer video also captured battles with Daesh in the desert and showed troops releasing men, women and children.
The footage, which counteracts the host of bloody propaganda films released by ISIS lately, finishes with Zahreddine walking past the line of bodies on the sand.
