Forget Reparations For Blacks, Liz Warren Wants To Pay Gay People Millions Upon Millions For Back Taxes

General News

Opinion| You can always tell when politicians are losing their grip on a particular special interest group.  They offer members of that group other people’s money.

On Friday, U.S. Senator and presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) re-introduced S. 1940, the Refund Equality Act, which would allow same-sex couples to file amended past federal tax returns.  Warren originally introduced a version of the bill in 2017.

The Joint Committee on Taxation reports that the bill would cost $57 million to compensate LGBTQ people, further adding to our national debt.

It’s in the nuanced wording of the bill that our cynicism meter goes off.

According to reports, Sen. Warren has targeted the funds only for same-sex couples in states that had legalized same-sex marriage before the “repeal” of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 2013.

DOMA was never repealed through legislation.  DOMA was ruled unconstitutional by a sharply divided Supreme Court.  The significance of that is that repeal never would have gathered enough votes to pass.

In far-left California, when gay marriage was put on the ballot (Prop 8), $74 million was spent by soecial interest groups prior to the vote.  Prop 8 preserved marriage as between one man and one woman.

Exit polls found Proposition 8 received critical support from black voters who broke with Barack Obama who they had supported for president. About seven in 10 blacks voted in favour of the ban. Latinos also supported it. Whites were split.

Here’s where by cynic meter starts going off.  The states that Sen. Warren has targeted are, of course, all blue states.  Apparently LGBTQ people in red states are less than equal, or suffered from less discrimination, in her legislation.

A cynic would conclude that Warren is running a risky gambit – blacks and Hispanics are not supportive – by using her political influence to allocate public funds to regain traction with a sliver of the Democrats’ dwindling base at this time.

  1. Anyone else think it’s well past time for the adults in the room to gently push the crazy communists scheming for another North Korea, traitorous no-borderers trying to dissolve America and bullying homosexuals demanding we acknowledge queer is normal into the corner so the rational people can run the country?

  2. We can keep that #50 million as part of the reimbursement for tax monies spent on HIV/AIDS treatment. I estimate that is about 10% of past costs.

  3. In the Seventies my girlfriend and I were living together so we decided to work our taxes both ways, we both worked so we both had income. the taxes we paid as two single filers were not the amount the IRS wanted if we were married and filing jointly. The IRS wanted a lot more if we were married, they have since fixed the marriage penalty but as they say be careful what you wish for you might get it. Also if the want the benefits of marriage without actually being married, did they have to pay a lawyer to break up??? PS Warren is a lying wack job 1024% Mexican!!

  4. Really sad Liz, you have to stoop that low for someone to like you? Most people still don’t like you or what you do, can you hear me now? It’s not about who ya know and who ya blow. Look up ‘character’ in the dictionary and you will discover that ALL insane liberal demotard tyrunts like you, have none… 🙁

  5. A married couple filing jointly gets only 3/4 the personal exemption of two singles shacking up. This “marriage penalty” was phased out by the Bush (43) tax cuts, but the whole tax cut program expired after 10 years. I don’t know if it’s been reinstated my Trump’s tax cut. Anyhow, Warren is totally nuts if she thinks anyone got screwed out of any tax benefit by NOT being married
