You won’t believe what those woke students at DePaul University, the largest Catholic college in the U.S., are up to now. They are trying to ban a religious organization from campus simply because they expressed the belief that LGBTQ people are sinners. Can you believe the audacity of these kids?
The group, called Vessel, made a Q&A post on their now-deleted Instagram page. When asked if their group is “affirming of the LGBTQ+ lifestyle,” they responded, “We are non-affirming. This means we do not agree that the LGBTQIA+ lifestyle is supported by biblical text.”
Now, I know some of you out there might think that this is just a matter of religious freedom and that this group has the right to express their beliefs. But not these students at DePaul. Oh no, they are so triggered by any opinion that doesn’t align with their own that they are calling for the group to be banned entirely from campus.
They’ve even started a petition called “Eliminate Vessel,” which has already gathered over 600 signatures. The petition accuses Vessel of committing “an abhorrent and a clear violation of DePaul’s Anti-Discrimination policy” simply for expressing their religious beliefs.
Can you believe this? These students are so intolerant that they can’t even handle the idea that someone might have a different belief system than their own. And they’re claiming that “a large majority of DePaul students” identify as LGBTQIA+. I find that hard to believe, but even if it were true, does that mean that anyone who doesn’t agree with their lifestyle should be banned from campus?
In a recent post to the petition site, the creator of the petition revealed that DePaul officials told her that religious groups are allowed to disagree with the LGBTQIA+ lifestyle and are allowed to believe it is sinful. But apparently, that’s not good enough for these students.
They are approaching this issue as if Vessel is solely meant to fight against those who identify as LGBTQIA+. But in reality, Vessel is a religious organization that happens to align its beliefs on the LGBTQ lifestyle with certain passages in the bible. They are not an anti-LGBTQ organization.
In a statement responding to the backlash for their Instagram post, Vessel spoke to the campus outlet The DePaulia. They said, “In no way did we intend to harm, or seem to ostracize or reject the LGBTQIA+ community at DePaul. In fact, we would much rather focus on worship and community building, key aspects of our faith community.”
“Disagreement is not harassment, but we apologize for any hurt we may have caused in how we have communicated things,” the group added.
But that’s not good enough for these students. They are so intolerant of any viewpoint that doesn’t align with their own that they are willing to trample all over religious freedom just to make sure that they don’t have to hear anything they don’t like.
I know that there are some out there who might say that this is just a matter of respecting other people’s beliefs, but let me tell you something. The Bible is very clear on the issue of homosexuality. In 1 Corinthians, it says, “neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves… will inherit the kingdom of God.”
Now, I know that some of you might not agree with that, but the fact of the matter is that this is what the Bible says. And if you’re going to call yourself a Catholic, then you need to be willing to accept what the Bible says.
This situation raises an important question: Are religious organizations allowed to express their beliefs on a college campus, even if those beliefs go against the mainstream narrative? Or should students be allowed to ban any religious organization whose beliefs they don’t agree with?
