Multiple professors at the University of New Hampshire are calling for the expulsion of two students who counter-protested a campus protest against President-elect Donald Trump.
According to college news website Campus Reform, former UNH professor Courtney Marshall posted the picture of the two student counter-protesters, who were wearing costumes of Richard Nixon and Harambe, the gorilla who was tragically shot at the Cincinnati zoo earlier this year, which received the attention of current UNH faculty, several of whom called for the expulsion of the two students.
“Time to call for an investigation leading to the expulsion of these students,” Robin Hackett, an associate professor of English and faculty member of the women’s studies program at the school, wrote.
Another UNH professor, Siobhan Senier, went so far as to draft a letter to the university’s president and provost, saying that the student in the Harambe costume was “harassing, intimidating, and racist.”
“Somebody knows who these two students are,” Senier wrote in her letter. “And whatever their intent is, it seems that a conversation with them is in order.”
“I implore you to take a strong stand on behalf of our most vulnerable students, faculty and staff,” she added.
English professors Molly Campbell and Larry Beemer also added to the conservation against the counter-protesters, decrying their protest, according to screenshots from Campus Reform.
More from Campus Reform:
At least two of the professors who called for disciplinary action against the counter-protesters are members of the Women’s Studies Program, which sanctioned the anti-Trump rally on its official Facebook page, flouting tax rules that prevent universities from engaging in partisan political activity.
“WS wants to make sure you know about this march that is happening tomorrow,” WSP wrote, sharing the “Our Power Walk Out and March.”
According to Campus Reform, the anti-Trump protest was officially organized by the UNH College Democrats and had help from the WSP, despite laws that disallow state funds from being used for political activity.
I guess freedom of speech is a one way street these days!! Poor little special snowflakes..someone disagrees with you and they run to shut the opposition up!! How positively Stalinist of them!!
