One month after being elected, a mayor of Texas was placed under arrest on Tuesday, June 21 on suspicion of online solicitation of a minor.

A 2nd-degree felony accusation of online solicitation of a minor under the age of 14 led to the arrest and detention of Matthew McIlravy, 42, in the Dallas County prison on Tuesday morning, Dallas police said.

On Facebook, the Dallas Police Department announced the arrest, stating that the case was the result of a five-month investigation by the department. Other communications with juveniles that have not yet been identified were discovered by this ongoing investigation.

In May, Mcllravy, a teacher who also serves as mayor of Pilot Point, roughly 54 miles north of Dallas, was elected to the position., however, after a five-month investigation by the department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, with assistance from U.S. Marshals Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Collin County District Attorney’s office, McIlravy was arrested.

“This ongoing investigation revealed other communications with minors who have not been identified at this time,” Dallas police said in a statement.

In Mcllravy government profile, which has since been deleted, the former leader is a married father of two boys who works as a design engineer and leads men’s prayer meetings.

McIlravy was detained at City Hall on Tuesday morning, according to a statement issued by Pilot Point City Manager Britt Lusk on Tuesday evening. Lusk reportedly told WFAA that at the time, they had no additional information.

“The City’s government is designed to be flexible and resilient,” Lusk wrote. “The City will follow applicable state law and the City’s charter to fill any vacancies. In the absence of the Mayor, the City’s charter provides that the Mayor Pro-Tem presides over meetings.”
